Limited edition book FINISH AS ONE honours 50 years of TCS Amsterdam Marathon

To mark the 50th anniversary of the TCS Amsterdam Marathon, sports organisation Le Champion is launching the official anniversary book FINISH AS ONE. This luxury coffee-table book takes readers on a visual and emotional journey through five decades of marathon history in the capital. The book is available for pre-order from today.

FINISH AS ONE tells the story of the Amsterdam Marathon: from a small-scale run with 300 participants in 1975 to a global running event of stature with 30,000 participants from more than 130 countries. The book includes rare photographs, personal stories of runners, volunteers and spectators, as well as interviews with top athletes past and present.

‘This golden jubilee obviously deserves a unique and lasting memento, a book is for us the tribute to 50 years of the Amsterdam Marathon,’ said René Wit, Race Director of the TCS Amsterdam Marathon. ‘From the starting shot in the historic Olympic Stadium to the discharge at the finish line; this book shows what makes this marathon so beloved by runners from all over the world.’

The book takes you along the course of the Amsterdam Marathon. After a symbolic starting shot by the mayor of Amsterdam, Femke Halsema, you will browse past highlights throughout the city such as the Rijksmuseum, the Vondelpark, the Amstel and Dam Square. Find new portraits of Abdi Nageeye, among others, and discover never-before-told stories. Why was Marja Wokke left unseen at the finish line when she was the first Dutch woman to break records? And how did Gerard Nijboer really experience his victories in Amsterdam? This book shows that the magic 42,195 connects people, regardless of nationality, faith or level of achievement. Everyone crosses the finish line in Amsterdam as one.
