Olympic Champion Tamirat Tola returns to TCS Amsterdam Marathon
Tamirat Tola, the Olympic marathon champion from Paris 2024, will line up at the start of the TCS Amsterdam Marathon on Sunday, October 19, for the event’s milestone anniversary edition. With a personal best and course record of 2:03:39 in Amsterdam, the Ethiopian star athlete is a strong contender to make history once again and a formidable opponent in a world-class field. Event organizer Le Champion is thrilled to welcome Olympic gold medallist Tamirat Tola to the TCS Amsterdam Marathon. The 34-year-old Ethiopian has ranked among the global elite for years and is recognized as one of the most consistent and successful marathoners of the past decade. At the Paris Olympics, he claimed gold with a time of 2:06:26. Earlier, in 2021, Tola made history in Amsterdam by winning with a time of 2:03:39 — still his personal best. In 2022, he became world marathon champion and followed that with a win at the TCS New York City Marathon in 2023. His return on Sunday, October 19, promises a thrilling race, as he not only aims to win again but also to break his own course record.
“I’m very happy to be back to compete at the TCS Amsterdam Marathon this year. I won Amsterdam in 2021 with 2:03:39 which is still my personal best. Since then, I’ve won the World Championships in 2022, the New York City Marathon in 2023, and the Olympic Games in 2024. Now I’m coming back to Amsterdam to aim for a sub-2:03 and to win again — especially in this special 50th anniversary edition!” — Tamirat Tola.
Race Director René Wit shared his excitement: “We are incredibly proud that an athlete of this caliber has once again chosen our marathon. His international breakthrough began here with his victory in Amsterdam in 2021. The fact that he’s returning now, after all his remarkable achievements in recent years, makes his participation even more special.”
Further announcements about the international elite field are expected soon, revealing which top athletes will challenge Tola on October 19 in his quest for victory and a new course record.
