Record proceeds for KWF Kankerbestrijding
The TCS Amsterdam Marathon joined forces again this year with KWF Kankerbestrijding to raise as much money as possible for cancer research at the Amsterdam UMC Cancer Centre Amsterdam. Participants could not only make a voluntary contribution during their registration, but via the Run against Cancer platform it was also possible to create their own donation page. Through this initiative, more than 1,500 runners took action today.
Thanks to all the donations and title sponsor TCS, a record-breaking proceeds were announced today. Yvette van de Graaf of KWF and Geert Kazemier of the Cancer Center Amsterdam accepted a cheque of no less than € 1,122,370. The cheque was handed over by René Wit, race director of the TCS Amsterdam Marathon and Josu Devasia, Country Head Netherlands of Tata Consultancy Services.
Carla van Gils, director KWF Kankerbestrijding: "I am deeply impressed by all the runners who have sponsored KWF. The money they ran to raise will go to the Amsterdam UMC Cancer Centre Amsterdam. The centre wants as many patients as possible to benefit from their innovative treatments. Not only in academic hospitals, but especially in regional hospitals. That is why they want to set up a regional research network. This way, more patients will get faster access to the latest treatments. We are extremely grateful to all participants, the organisation and donors."
