Run against cancer
When you run the Amsterdam Marathon, you’re not just crossing a finish line in one city. You are helping to change the future of cancer care worldwide.
Cancer is a global challenge – so we act globally
Cancer affects people in every country, on every continent. No single nation can solve this alone. That’s why KWF (Dutch Cancer Society) works across borders with policymakers, like-minded charities, international networks and leading scientists around the world. We join forces to:
- Make important cancer medicines more affordable and accessible for patients;
- Support smart, new ideas to better prevent, treat and live with cancer;
- Improve care, not only in the Netherlands, but across Europe and beyond;
- Strengthen support for promising young researchers and ensure the continuity of high-quality research in the world.
Our goal is clear: by 2030 we want to drastically reduce the impact of cancer.
Building a European movement and driving breakthroughs for people with rare cancersFor people with a rare type of cancer, there are often too few patients in one country to properly test new treatments. So KWF joins forces with cancer charities and experts across Europe. By working together in three key projects we can:
- Run studies that give patients with rare cancers real hope for new treatments;
- Make sure people with rare cancers can get safer, smarter treatment wherever they live;
- And fund studies that look at how treatments work in real life, in everyday hospitals. Especially for cancers where current treatment options are lacking. This programme is supported by the EU.
On top of this, KWF offers the Young Investigators Grant to attract talented young researchers to the Netherlands, train them as future leaders in cancer research and help secure continuous, high-quality cancer research for patients all over the world.
Every step fights cancer
When you choose to Run against Cancer or donate to KWF during the Amsterdam Marathon, you:
- Help give people with rare cancers a better chance at life;
- Support European teamwork that no country could achieve alone;
- Help make sure better treatments and care reach patients in many countries.
Your kilometers in Amsterdam travel far beyond the city. They support families, doctors and researchers and most of all, people with cancer who urgently need better options.
